BEREA, Ohio — Freddie Kitchens is coming back to Cleveland this summer. The Browns are planning to host the New York Giants, who employ Kitchens as a senior offensive assistant, for joint practices prior to the preseason game between the two teams.

The Browns play the Giants on August 22 at FirstEnergy Stadium at 1 p.m. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the teams will hold two joint practices during his Zoom call with media following Wednesday’s OTA pratice.

Stefanski and Giants head coach Joe Judge are both Philadelphia Catholic League alums. Stefanski beat out Judge on St. Joseph Prep’s freshman football team at quarterback before starring at safety at the school. Judge ended up playing at Lansdale Catholic.

The Browns’ planned joint practices in Green Bay last training camp were canceled along with the entire 2020 preseason due to COVID-19 and league restrictions on travel.

This year, with the addition of a 17th regular season game, the preseason was reduced to three games, making joint practices more valuable.

Other teams have also announced plans for joint practices, including the Dolphins hosting the Falcons, the Vikings hosting the Broncos and the Buccaneers hosting the Titans, while the Rams plan to hold two sets of joint practices with the Cowboys and Raiders.

The Browns last held joint practices when Kitchens was the head coach in 2019 against the Colts prior to the two teams playing in Indianapolis.

The Browns will open the preseason on August 14 at 7 p.m. at Jacksonville. Training camps are currently scheduled to open for 29 of the 32 teams, including the Browns, on July 27, as determined by the collective bargaining agreement.
